GYRLS (Generating Youth Resilience and Leadership

Search for Common Ground Indonesia, in collaboration with Management Systems International (MSI) and Love Frankie, has been implementing Harmoni, a USAID-funded program that aims to increase the resilience of Indonesian society to intolerance and violent extremism (VE). Harmoni supports communities, migrant workers, and critical institutions to develop more effective tools and systems to bolster tolerance and counter the appeal of VE organizations (VEOs), reintegrate former VEO members and supporters, and support migrant workers.

As part of Harmoni, SFCG Indonesia carries out a program that empowers influential young women and girls to create initiatives that support P-CVE and social reintegration efforts, "GYRLS," stands for Generating Youth Resilience and Leadership.

GYRLS is a training camp event and a one-month mentorship program for twenty young women and girls in Greater Jakarta and Solo, Indonesia. GYRLS aims to empower these young women to educate their communities on the Prevention and Counter Action of Violent Extremism (P-CVE) and Social Reintegration, to ultimately strengthen the capacity of communities to support rehabilitation and reintegration of radicalized individuals and their families.

As the Lead Consultant, I co-designed the concept of the program with my team members, designed the communication tools, (such as module, placard, certificate, banner, and merchandise), and acted as one of the editors of the module created to guide the alumni in organizing activities to support social reintegration and community resilience in their districts. I was also one of the mentors for an alumni group that has run social and behavioral change activities to support peacebuilding and P-CVE (preventing and countering violent extremism) efforts in South Jakarta.
